DESIGN! or NO SIGN? MCBW 2020

DESIGN! or NO SIGN?
Neon – light installation at the victory gate

The neon installation DESIGN! or NO SIGN? was created exclusively for the MCBW 2020, and with this work the artist Jan Kuck explores the significance of design for shaping the future.

The design process is more than just the creation of an aesthetic product. Successful design sets clear signs and thinks our future in a multidimensional way. It not only skilfully combines aesthetics with technical function, but is also responsible, social and sustainable.

The installation reflects precisely this aspect of conscious design and translates it into an oversized light sign. And all this at an architectural monument of high design quality and significance. “Dedicated to victory – destroyed by war – exhorting to peace” has been standing above the relief since its reconstruction in 1958. This is how a war memorial became a peace memorial: The victory gate also sets a clear sign!

DESIGN! or NO SIGN? Was made possible by the support of: Bayern Design, the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy, and Allianz AG.

After 17.03.2020 the installation will go on tour with Allianz AG for one year. Among other things as the main work in the Allianz Lounge at the Art Düsseldorf 2020.
